Project summary

Traditional arrangements of electrochemical detection allow to observe the electrode reaction under one selected potential. This setting is simple and straightforward, but in the same time, it does not exploit the available information range. Also, the sensitivity and selectivity of the detection can be enhanced by more sophisticated detection systems, either using variable potentials on single electrode or employing more electrodes with fixed potential on each of them.

This project is aimed to the development of electrochemical detectors for flow techniques, particularly for HPLC, utilizing a series of the working electrodes. Both planar electrodes in amperometric arrangement, particularly thin-layer, and porous electrodes in coulometric arrangement will be used. This setting should allow to supplement potential dimension in the chromatograms. Suitable combination of the potentials will be sought, in order to enhance the selectivity of the detection by removal of easily oxidisable compounds or to utilize the differences in reversibility of the electrode reactions.
